We had such a great day on our tour on Wednesday! Here we are on the climbing wall!

West Cork Secret

What a secret is was!!

We headed off to Kilbrittain this morning at 8am for a fun filled day! We had such a fantastic day playing team games and having lots of fun! The day ended with 20 of us including Ms Nagle sliding down a gigantic waterslide after we rolled around in the muddy obstacle course!

We gave the trip 11/10!!!

Teaching Technology

Our class headed off to 3rd class to show them some new skills on our new Chromebooks. All the students from 3rd to 6th class have now logged in and used our new Chromebooks.

Our class are currently typing up our stories from English.

Buzzzzzing bees

Our art this week was inspired by our visit from Mrs Barry and her hive of bees.

Cherry Blossoms

In our art lesson this week we focused on perspective. We created a path of cherry blossom trees and coloured them in using chalk.

Walking Debate

We are learning about debating in English. We held a walking debate today discussing lots of different points and opinions!

In solidarity with Ukraine we painted sunflowers inspired by Vincent Van Gogh.

Terrific tennis

We had a terrific time at tennis last Friday! We learned some basic skills from our trainer Michael.

Soil experiment

We investigated the different layers of soil today by conducting an experiment using the soil in our school garden. We left our experiments in our classroom and will check their progress during the week.

Animal Projects

We created some FANTASTIC animal report project in February. They are hung proudly outside our classroom.

What a busy day we had on Tuesday!! We decorated pancakes, we planted seeds and we made mini-beasts out of clay!

We are learning all about irregular verbs in Irish.We have learned one a week for the last 6 weeks! We played matching games today to help us learn and remember them.

Incredible edibles

We are so lucky to be taking part in incredible edibles this year. Our first task was learning about food origin and our second one was learning all about the Bord Bia Quality mark. We took photos of the symbol on the food we had in our fridges

This week we created still life fruit bowls in art, we used water colours to create these master pieces.

We have started learning about Reports in English. Everyone has picked one unusual animal to write a report on. We are in the research stage now. We used tablets and laptops to investigate our animals. Fr

We created weaving hearts in art on Thursday. We were learning how to weave paper as we hope to weave with wool and canvas soon.

Terrific titanics

Look at the amazing Titanics that we created!

Everyone worked so hard creating and designing their own versions, some pairs had sinking Titanics, others had Titanics floating in the sea and one even had the ship splitting in two! We took our phots in front of the amazing drawings we did in art.

Look at how busy our classroom was last Friday when we started creating our Titanic displays. Each pair got a shoebox and must recreate the sinking of the Titanic! I can’t wait to see the finished products!

Kahoot

We tested our knowledge of the Titanic today using a game called Kahoot! A question appeared on the board with 4 possible answers, the team who selected the correct answer the fastest wins.

What time is it?

4th class are moving onto time this week. We need to find new batteries for some of our clocks!

St.Brigid’s Day

Ms Rice surprised us today with a big bunch of rushes. We spent an hour making St. Bridget’s Day crosses.

MArtin Luther king Day

This month we studied Martin Luther King in History, we celebrated Martin Luther King Day on the 17th of January. We are also learning how to take short hand notes in our History hardbacks too. We created these beautiful portraits in art.

Caitheamh aimsire

We have spent the last week learning all about our hobbies in Irish. We played games on Friday using all the new foclóir we learned.

Chinese New YEar

We started off 2022 by looking at the Chinese New Year. We read the story of the 12 animals and how each year has its own unique animal. This year is the year of the tiger! We then looked at China in Geography. We created brochures all about what China has to offer! We included places to visit, the different types of food, the culture, the lantern festivals and much more!

Christmas Concert

Look at the fantastic performances by 4th and 5th class. We created 2 videos, Twas the Night Before Christmas and Scéal na Nollaig. We hope you enjoy them! (The links will be live on at Friday 9am)

PJ Party

Today we had a pj party in our classroom.

The children have worked very hard at being extra kind to their classmates and teachers for the last few weeks. We wore our fluffy onesies and pjs and created forts with our blankets and pillows under the desks. The day was made extra special when we had popcorn and watched a film. Ms Nagle, Ms Lane and Ms Flynn all wore their Pjs too!

Christmas Activities

Christmas activities are in full swing in our classroom this week. We are looking at Christmas songs as part of our music lesson. We have decorated our classroom and hallway. We even created Christmas Gnomes today. We are also doing Secret Santa this year.

World War 1

We have been studying WW1 in history for the last few weeks. On Thursday we used the app Padlet and got the opportunity to explore lots of different links. Here is the link to our padlet.

Northern Lights

Look at the light effects that we created used scraps of paper and chalk! We splattered paint across the pages to create a winter scene.

Snowflakes

Today we sorted out the instructions on how to make paper snowflakes. We had to first match the step with the correct picture.

We will be making them tomorrow to hang around our classroom. Lots of students were wearing their Christmas jumpers and hats too.

Procedural Emojis ☕ 

We have moved onto procedural writing this week and after a busy week of writing we decided to use the iPads on Friday. We created a step by step guide on how to make the best cup of tea using emojis. Take a look at how they turned out. ? ☕ 

More Winter Robins

This week we created beautiful winter robins. They are now hung proudly in our corridor for everyone to see.

Kindness

In our classroom we are focusing on kindness, we are all trying to be a little kinder to each other. Each time we get caught being kind we add a paper chain to our kindness chain. Once it reaches from one side of the room to the other we are going to have a special party!! The children have loads of paper chains so far but they have a long way yet to go!

An Bhialann

In Irish we are learning all about food. We decided to create a restaurant in our classroom. We have worked extremely hard for 2 weeks writing and learning our scripts. We practised every day and we also brought in our own props too!

English stations

We are currently have English stations running in our classroom. We have stations 3 days a week with the help of Ms.Sheehan and Ms. Lane. Our stations include: oral language, spellings, our novel Holes, grammar, and comprehension. We also get to use iPads for English games!

Winter Robins

Today we painted winter robins. We can’t wait to see the finished results tomorrow!

Science week 2.0

More experiments: Lava Lamps, Fake snow, skittles, fireworks, spud batteries and floating oranges!

Volcanoes, elephant toothpaste, snow and moving objects were just some of the experiments that the 4th and 5th class students created today! First the students researched and created a poster for their experiment. They then demonstrated it for the entire class. Some experiments were completed outside!!

We have another busy day of experiments tomorrow!

On Friday we put on our wellies and coats and headed down to the castle to investigate the different type of trees that were growing in the castle grounds!

Heritage Visit

What a week!!

We spent two fantastic days with Tony exploring and learning about different animals and plants that live in our local area.

Halloween stories

4th and 5th class were busy writing their own Halloween stories before midterm! The stories were even more frightening than some of the costumes!

Sun Dials

Aztecs, sun Gods, light and now sun dials.

This morning we created simple sun dials using paper plates and lollipop sticks. We put out our sun dials at 10 am and marked the shadow created by the sun. We then went out at 2pm and marked where the shadow was then. We noticed the shadow had moved 1/4 of the way across our dial. Sun dials were used to measure the time.

Water

We are working towards our Green Schools Flag this year and the theme is Water. We spent our art lesson today creating posters. We thought of some very catchy slogans too. We displayed them outside our classroom and hope they will encourage everyone to save water.

The Aztecs

We hung up our final Aztec poster today in our classroom and in the hallway. The children spent two weeks creating and designing their Aztec posters. The posters are lots of different colours and sizes.

MAths week

In 4th class for maths week we are spending 20 minutes everyday playing lots of fun maths games. We have played 101, higher or lower, bingo, POP and smallest number so far this week.

Cluichí Gaeilge

To help use revise our topics in Irish we have spent the last few days playing lots of different games in Irish.

AN Scoil

We spent two weeks learning about An Scoil and just look at the amazing paragraphs we created on Friday. The children are so proud of their work!

Gaa

Five boys in 5th class won an U11 blitz last weekend with St. Catherines GAA. They won all of their games and were presented with a fantastic trophy and they brought in to show everyone. Well done boys!

The Aztecs

For the last 2 weeks we have been studying the Aztecs. Here we are working on our posters. We are nearly finished them and they will be hung up in our classroom. They look fantastic and they show all the amazing facts that we learned.

Pumpkins

With Halloween just around the corner we decided to create beautiful 3-D pumpkins during oil pastels and chalk! Some students created a day time picture while others decorated their landscape’s with stars.

light

In science we are learning all about light. Take a look at how we tried to turn a rainbow back into white light! We are learning about the Aztecs in History, the Aztecs worshiped the sun so we decided to investigate Sun Gods and light.

Paper Chains

Our principal Mr Mulcahy retired in October and we decided to decorate our corridor with beautiful paper chains. We had so much fun creating these chains and they really brightened up the corridor.

Spellings for me

This year we started a new spellings programme called Spellings for Me. The children spent the first few weeks in September on the iPads testing themselves on their spellings. We then started a very exciting workbook and each child has their own individual spelling list to work on each week. We have been also using a new spelling game called Wipeout to help us learn our Irish words and spellings.

water

We spent the month of September learning all things water. We learned about the water cycle and created welly and umbrella art.

Me Féin

The 4th and 5th class students were working hard in September learning all about Me Féin in Irish. After two weeks of learning the children were able to write paragraphs on their whiteboards.
