Fourth/Fifth Class 2020-2021

Special Visitor to school garden

On Friday afternoon the pupils of 4th and 5th class began to tackle the over grown school garden. Everyone was extremely busy pulling weeds, collecting rubbish and finding all sorts of creepy crawlies. Until one 4th class boy found one very special visitor, a hedgehog. The hedgehog was sleeping under a big pile of leaves, we all went for a look and then left the hedgehog alone. Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals and we didn’t want to disturb him. Hopefully if we leave water and some food he might come back again.

The garden is looking much better now and we are very excited to begin planting soon.

BEST DAY EVER

Great fun today in our Christmas jumpers. We also got to decorate biscuits and eat them while watching a Christmas film.

Science Week in Senior Infants

Senior infants completed a number of fun experiments to celebrate Science week this year. All experiments were done using items that the children could find at home. Our first experiment was the Skittles rainbow, using a plate, some skittles and warm water. The experiment showed how sugar dissolves in water and it looked really nice too. The hardest part for the children was not eating the Skittles!

We also made volcanoes using water, food colouring, baking soda, washing up liquid and vinegar. It was really explosive!

Other experiments included tie dye milk and liquid layers.

PAPER DOLLS

Senior Infants made some ‘Mini me’ dolls last week in art, using a variety of materials.

Junior Infants 2020-2021

We Look AmazING IN OUR CHRISTMAS JUMPERS!!

We had lots of fun getting ready for Christmas this year in Junior Infants. The excitement began as we started Aistear around the theme of ‘Santa’s Workshop’. We wrapped presents, followed Christmas lists and made some festive patterns. Here are some pictures of all the fun that we had!

  • Practicing the steps in putting up the Christmas tree!
  • Christmas Patterns!
  • Santa’s elves were very busy!
  • Making our Christmas puddings!

Here’s some art work from the month of December, along with our kindness tree in the classroom. The children made their own decorations – very impressive!

October in Junior Infants

We learned lots about Autumn this year in Junior Infants. We started Aistear this month where we discussed Autumn clothes, signs of Autumn and some Autumn vocabulary. We even made our own leaf rubbings! The children enjoyed doing a different activity every week with their group during Aistear time.

For our last week before midterm break, we did something a little different and painted with broccoli. Our pumpkins turned out fantastic and the children had great fun!
